Jim Irwin Wins the Nationals

Congratulations to skipper Jim Irwin and his crew for winning the 2026 Mariner National Championships held this past weekend at Riverton Yacht Club, New Jersey. Jim placed third in 2017, second in 2022, and third in 2025; this is his first time bringing home the trophy.

Three races were held on Saturday and two on Sunday. According to event organizer Terry Fennell, the substantial current and a dying breeze made for challenging conditions on the second day. Congratulations also to Terry and everyone at the Riverton Yacht Club who helped organize and coordinate another fantastic event.

The Executive Board slate for 2026-2028 is now active in accordance with the Constitution which states that all Board terms end and begin at the conclusion of the annual National Championships.

The Mariner is a 19-foot fiberglass sloop first manufactured by George O'Day in 1963, and currently produced by Stuart Marine. Over 4,000 boats have been constructed and can be found all over the country and even internationally. The object of the Mariner Class Association, founded in 1966, is to encourage and promote the use of the Mariner as an economical daysailer, racer and cruiser; to keep the boat safe; to develop Mariner Class racing under uniform rules with Fleet regattas and an annual National Championship and to maintain the one-design features of the Mariner as originally intended by the Designer; to develop and support family sailing opportunities with regional cruising events and an annual Mariner Rendezvous.
