Terry Moulton: Newsletter Editor
Nathan Bayreuther - 9/20/2019
Let's all give a big welcome to Terry Moulton who has graciously and enthusiastically agreed to come (back) on the Executive Board as the next Notice to Mariners
Newsletter Editor! Terry was actually the President of the Mariner Class Association from 1997-1998. He answered the call when we were recently looking for a new Editor, and all of us thank him very much for stepping up to the plate!
Terry has been sailing since the age of eleven when he built a standard Sailfish from a kit the manufacturer supplied. His bought his first Mariner, #3569, back in the early 1990s, and he has since purchased, repaired and sold over fifteen Mariners, some with the help of other members of the Surf City Yacht Club, New Jersey of which he is a member. A chemical engineer, he has run several plants and has had a contracting business on Long Beach Island.
An accomplished racer, he placed third in the Mariner Nationals twice. He also helped put together some issues of the Notice to Mariners
back in the 1990s and was the editor of The Racer's Edge
and The Mariner Cruising Story Book
We're happy and excited to have him on the Board!
Dan Walsh Wins His Fifth Nationals
Nathan Bayreuther - 8/27/2019
Congratulations to skipper Dan Walsh and crew Randy Swartley (#2778 Double Trouble
) for winning the 2019 Mariner Class Association National Championships this past weekend at Brant Beach Yacht Club in New Jersey! Only four races (instead of the usual six) took place as racing was cancelled on Sunday due to high winds. Nevertheless, 17 boats participated in the regatta, and special thanks goes to the Brant Beach Yacht Club for hosting the event - this is the 12th time they have hosted the Nationals since the regatta was first organized in 1969.
Congratulations also to skipper Dennis Russom (#3589) from Brant Beach who came in second place in his very first Nationals!

Inspecting a Mariner to Purchase
Want to buy a Mariner but not really sure what to look for? Is that weird stain just cosmetic or indicative of a structural issue? Does that problem need to be addressed immediately, or can it wait for another time? Is that other thing a deal-breaker, or can I use it to negotiate a lower price? Check out our inspection guide to help you be better informed when looking at a Mariner you may want to buy.

The Mariner is a 19-foot fiberglass sloop first manufactured by George O'Day in 1963, and currently produced by Stuart Marine. Over 4,000 boats have been constructed and can be found all over the country and even internationally. The object of the Mariner Class Association, founded in 1966, is to encourage and promote the use of the Mariner as an economical daysailer, racer and cruiser; to keep the boat safe; to develop Mariner Class racing under uniform rules with Fleet regattas and an annual National Championship and to maintain the one-design features of the Mariner as originally intended by the Designer; to develop and support family sailing opportunities with regional cruising events and an annual Mariner Rendezvous.
New members are always welcome.
The Association publishes a newsletter, appropriately named Notice To Mariners, which is sent electronically to all members about four times a year. Through the newsletter, our forums and the plethora of information on the website, members can learn from highly experienced Mariner owners about maintaining, tuning, restoring, cruising, and racing a Mariner. We hope that you enjoy your visit to our web site and that you will soon enjoy the many benefits of Membership.
